Email & Notifications

Email preferences (/settings?tab=notifications) control two digest channels — the newsletter (weekly/monthly progress + reading summary) and the job-search pulse (daily/weekly search digest). Transactional emails (welcome, password reset, account notices) always send and aren't gated by these preferences.

TL;DR — Pick your digest cadence: Weekly (default), Monthly, or Off. Change it any time, or use the one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom of any digest.

What gets emailed

Three categories of email go out from WaypointCareer:

  1. Welcome email — sent once, when you sign up. Contains three first-step deep links: set a goal, run a self-evaluation, add a reading item.
  2. Newsletter digest — sent on your chosen cadence. Includes:
    • Progress since the last digest — goal hit-rate, self-evaluation changes.
    • Pending reading — the top two articles and top two videos in your reading list that are still in progress or queued (status = Reading or Want to Read).
    • Platform announcements — anything the WaypointCareer team is rolling out (new features, scheduled maintenance, etc.).
  3. Job-search pulse — sent daily (paid plans) or weekly (all plans). Includes new matches, application deadlines in the next 7 days, upcoming interviews, and goals behind pace. Paid plans see richer detail per section; Directorship+ adds a stale search-engagement reminder.
  4. Transactional — password resets, account notices. Always delivered.

Change your cadence

  1. Open /settings → Notifications.
  2. Pick Weekly, Monthly, or Off under "Newsletter digest."
  3. The change saves immediately.

The page also shows when your last digest was sent.

The job-search pulse

The pulse is a separate cadence from the newsletter:

  1. Open /settings → Notifications.
  2. Under "Job-search pulse" pick Daily, Weekly, or Off.
  3. Daily requires any paid plan — on Free it's shown but locked. If your plan lapses while Daily is saved, the pulse quietly sends weekly until you renew; your saved choice is kept.

Pulses with nothing to report are skipped — you never get a blank email.

Unsubscribe with one click

Every digest email includes a one-click unsubscribe link in the footer (RFC 8058 — also accessible from your mail client's native "Unsubscribe" button). Clicking it sets your frequency to Off. You can re-subscribe any time from /settings → Notifications.

Unsubscribe links are per-channel: a link in a pulse email turns off only the pulse; a link in a newsletter turns off only the newsletter.
